Challenges

When Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, CVS Health wanted a way to quickly fund medical relief for individuals and communities impacted by the crisis.

When it comes to disaster relief, time is of the essence. With a growing number of refugees across Poland, Romania, Hungary, Moldova, Slovakia, and Belarus seeking medical relief, the CVS Health team knew that they needed to act fast. Unfortunately, setting up a disaster relief campaign and communicating it to colleagues would be a lengthy, time-intensive, and complex process for the team. Plus, they needed a way to track the number of donations, matching gift requests, and participants to evaluate the program’s effectiveness and report impact.

Outcome

CVS Health partnered with Bonterra’s team of experts to quickly activate a Ukraine disaster relief dashboard using Bonterra’s Employee Engagement solution. The platform’s user-friendly interface coupled with automated reminders and nudges helped incentivize colleague participation throughout the duration of the campaign. Within the first 24 hours, CVS Health exceeded its colleague matching goal of $50,000 and delivered on their promise to support affected communities with critical emergency services.

CVS Health also used Bonterra’s native reporting tool, Insights, to get a closer look into campaign specifics and better understand colleague participation. After launching their Ukraine response efforts through internal communications, they saw a significant increase in the volume and frequency of new users logging into the portal. Nearly 40% of participating colleagues were doing so for the first time, proving that quickly implementing a timely program can help drive first-time donors.

With Insights, CVS Health was able to get a closer look into colleague participation trends and understand how they want to give and what causes matter most to them. These valuable insights will be instrumental in building future campaigns, leading to more engaged colleagues and, ultimately, greater impact.
