Salsa Labs has become part of the Bonterra ecosystem

Fundraising software helps nonprofit organizations acquire and retain donors so they can raise more to serve their mission. Up until 2021, one of the biggest players in the fundraising software space was Salsa Labs. However, a lot has changed for Salsa Labs since then, and the company has officially become part of Bonterra. 

In this article, we’ll explain the journey Salsa Labs underwent to join Bonterra and where the Salsa Labs software is today. 

What is Salsa Labs?

Founded in 2003, Salsa Labs provided nonprofits with software to support their fundraising, advocacy, and marketing efforts. Through Salsa CRM and Salsa Engage, nonprofits could create comprehensive donor databases and leverage them to cultivate long-term relationships. 

Additionally, Salsa maintained an extensive blog of free resources and offered the Salsa Scholars eLearning experience. Today, many of these resources are still available on Bonterra’s updated blog.

How Salsa Labs joined Bonterra 

On June 2, 2021, EveryAction announced it had purchased Salsa Labs. Prior to this acquisition, EveryAction had already bought multiple other nonprofit software companies that are now part of Bonterra, such as GiveGab. 

At the time of the purchase, it was known that EveryAction intended to develop an integration between EveryAction and Salsa Labs’ platforms to create a unified CRM for nonprofits. However, just a few months later on August 3, 2021, EveryAction and all of the products it now encompassed joined Bonterra.

Apax is the perfect partner to help us collectively Do Good and Do Well, given their outstanding track record as a tech investor and their focus on impact,” said then CEO of EveryAction, Stu Trevelyan, in a public announcement. 

On March 23, 2022, Bonterra officially announced its name and that Salsa Labs, along with GiveGab, Network for Good, and EveryAction, would be used to create a “nonprofit fundraising and relationships management” system. This product would later be developed into Bonterra’s award-winning software, Bonterra Fundraising and Engagement.  

How Salsa Labs fits in the Bonterra ecosystem

Ultimately, Bonterra’s goal of realizing a comprehensive, personalized, and user-friendly fundraising platform will be achieved through software built on EveryAction, Network for Good, and Mobilize, rather than Salsa Labs. 

However, there are currently no plans to sunset Salsa Engage, and current Salsa Engage users have two options: continue using Salsa Engage through Bonterra or migrate to Bonterra Fundraising and Engagement.

• Nonprofit CRM: which includes workflow automation, custom contributions fields, reporting tools, pledge donation management, grant management, planned giving management, and member management tools.
