Social Solutions Apricot: How it joined the Bonterra family

In this brief article, we’ll explain what happened to Social Solutions and Social Solutions Apricot and how this essential case management product became part of Bonterra.

What is Social Solutions?

Founded in 2000, Social Solutions was a leading provider of case management software for nonprofit organizations and public sector agencies. To aid organizations in managing relationships with individual clients and delivering better outcomes, Social Solutions offered three products: Social Solutions Apricot, ETO, and Penelope. These platforms provided varying levels of support, customization, and scalability for nonprofit case management. 

Starting in 2014, Social Solutions was acquired by various private equity firms before finally being purchased by Apax Partners LLP on August 4, 2021. 

How Social Solutions joined Bonterra

In a joint statement, Apax announced it had acquired both Social Solutions and EveryAction with the intent to merge them with CyberGrants, which had been acquired earlier in June of that year. 

“Joining forces will empower human services agencies in both the nonprofit and public sectors to fully capitalize on the opportunities for digital transformation. Our expanded offerings and opportunities for product innovation will create real value for our clients, improve outcomes for the people they serve, and help them accelerate lasting social change,” said then CEO of Social Solutions, Erin Mulligan Nelson.

At the time of this statement, Bonterra had yet to be officially named and announced, but Apax still shared their intentions to form leading SaaS solutions that would transform the social good sector. After the acquisition, Apax’s immediate goals were to:

  • Develop integrations between the newly acquired software. 
  • Support innovation and continued product advancement. 
  • Accelerate growth both in terms of software capabilities and incoming revenue. 

On March 23, 2022, Bonterra was formally introduced to the world, announcing its name and the intention for Social Solution’s products to form the basis of its case management platform. With this transition, our goal is to build an interactive network of measurement, support, and best practice content into the same tools our customers use every day to manage their cases and programs.
