Bonterra joins forces with DonorDrive

Today, I had the pleasure to welcome DonorDrive customers to Bonterra via a personal letter. This acquisition represents another step forward in our mission to increase charitable giving from 2.5% to 3% of US GDP by 2033. And, while the impact on our mission is huge, the even bigger impact is really for DonorDrive and Bonterra customers: imagine what we can accomplish for all your causes as we bring together the best fundraising technologies in the entire nonprofit sector.

DonorDrive adds best-in-class peer-to-peer fundraising capabilities to Bonterra’s Fundraising and Engagement ecosystem, which is already helping 20,000 nonprofits raise $20B+ a year. These solutions drive enormous results, like a 242% increase in revenue raised for Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, a 218% increase in individual giving (with an 80% increase in sustainers) for WhyHunger, and a 350% increase in first-time donors at the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism.

Now add in DonorDrive’s results: They helped Michigan Medicine increase their number of peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns by 48%, resulting in 18% more giving. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center (in New York City) achieved a 29% increase in fundraising this year at their Cycle for the Cause event with DonorDrive. On average, organizations using DonorDrive alone grow their digital fundraising by 55% annually.

Finally, imagine the increased impact as we bring Bonterra and DonorDrive together. That’s what I’m most excited about, and where I believe we will deliver outsized value for our customers. We’re creating the world’s largest community of givers, volunteers, and nonprofits — and helping all three capitalize on the more vibrant, sustainable connections that come from more meaningful participant experiences.

Q&A: What does this mean for you as a customer?

What immediate changes will I notice as a DonorDrive customer?
Zero. We’re committed to listening and learning from you — and to keeping your product performance, support, and service at the high caliber you are accustomed to.

In the medium and long-term, you should expect accelerated innovation for DonorDrive, including its own innovation roadmap and connections to the rest of the Bonterra Fundraising and Engagement suite.

What pricing changes should I expect?
All existing contracts will be honored. Additionally, all DonorDrive customers will get free access to our auctions capability and the ability to upgrade to one of our premier Fundraising and Engagement solutions at a discounted rate.

Will this decrease the amount of innovation we are seeing on the product?
No. DonorDrive customers will continue to experience significant investment in their product. In fact, investment will accelerate as we combine other Bonterra capabilities (such as giving days and auction capabilities) into DonorDrive to create a best-in-industry Fundraising events solution.

Will the Salesforce integration be impacted?
No. We’ve heard that the Salesforce integration is a valuable asset to DonorDrive customers. We will continue to support and maintain that important integration.

I’ve heard DonorDrive customers can get discounted access to other Bonterra products. How does that work?
We’re finalizing the details, so stay tuned for an update. Right away, DonorDrive customers can get access to Bonterra’s online auctions capability at no additional cost. While it’s not fully integrated with DonorDrive yet, it will be over time.

Additionally, we’ll soon announce a program for adopting specific Bonterra Fundraising and Engagement solutions at a discounted rate. Be on the lookout for more information in our upcoming October webinar.

Are you mostly focused on buying companies rather than developing products?
At Bonterra, we focus on both building products internally and acquiring companies and products that will advance the impact of our customers’ causes — further accelerating innovation.

For example, DonorDrive’s acquisition fits into our existing innovation theme of “Empowering Supporters,” which is about significantly activating supporter networks to advance your organization’s causes. Our business model calls for us to continue innovating against that theme.
